Although drug abuse can have devastating effects on your body as a whole, the effects on your heart can be particularly debilitating. Methamphetamine use can cause an elevated heart rate and lead to cardiac damage. Cocaine has been linked to stroke and heart attack. Even tobacco causes and increased risk for hardening of the arteries which can lead to a heart attack.
